What is the mission of the Young Adults Department?

To serve all young adults, regardless of any impediment they may face in becoming literate.

To foster a sense of community among young adults, many of whom feel there is 'nothing" to do in Colleton County.

To host programs that are fun, engaging, and promote literacy and intellectual growth of the young adults.

To build a collection that is diverse in subject, content, and breadth of humanity.

KWANZAA CELEBRATION... A SUCCESS.




Yesterday, we had an exciting time at the Kwanzaa program held at the library.

We had 24 people attend the program. Ms. Thelma Williams served at the host of the program. Mr. Aleck Williams was the library liaison for the event.
The event covered the "Ngozo Saba" or the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa.

Students will learn about college, military and other career options.

YA GAMING CLUB
Play your favorite games on the Wii, Playstation 2 and Xbox 360. Refreshments served.

Chocolate Festival
Join us as we explore the many textures of chocolate just in time for Valentine’s Day. Satisfy your sweet tooth! Date: February 14th 4:00-5:00 PM

Youth Oratory Contest and Fashion Show Celebrating African-American Style:
Teens will compete in an oratory contest. Teens will model clothing both from Harlem Renaissance to Afro-centric clothing. A timeline of Black American Music will be presented.

March 10-14 Teen Tech Week
Date: March 12th 4:00-5:00 PM
Celebrate with Ereader Demos, Free Downloadables (Books, Music) and Laptops, Play Online Games.

Poetry Slam: National Poetry Month
Sign up to participate in this engaging event and showcase your original poetry to other young adults and the community. See Mr. Aleck for details. Participants win prizes!

We are supporting our Veterans at the Veteran's Day Parade!
Help us promote the library.

We need teens and TAB members to walk behind the bookmobile during the Veteran's Day Parade.

YA GAMING CLUB - A SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!

Last week, we had a great turn out with 16 attending. Everyone played either the Wii, PlayStation 2 and the XBOX360.


Kudos to the crew in the pic above for helping me put up games and consoles and arranging the room. They also found time to pose.

Next YA Gaming Club will be October 11th.

Our goal is to have the Play Station 3 for this club meeting.
